We watched the special features. The amount of thought that went into designing all those set pieces was absolutely incredible. And they didn't use cgi for most of the scenes where they were in their home. They wrapped the set in a projector screen and put up images of the sky. It's great when a director tries not to rely on cgi.
CGI environments just don't feel right, anyway. The Star Wars prequel trilogy comes to mind--it's almost distracting when I can sense that most of what I'm looking at isn't even physically there.
