The dumbest charity event I've ever seen: 25 hours of gaming

Okay, so here's how this works (directly from the website): 1. You sign up. 2. You ask for sponsors (donations) 3. You play video games for 25 hours straight Maybe I'm not getting it, but I'm not seeing the connection between steps 2 and 3. This isn't like a charity 5k or something like that, because in those events the event participation fee is the donation. So someone hosts an event, and people pay to participate. In this situation, people are paying to have someone play video games for a whole day. In that case, what's the point of the 25 hour gaming session other than to waste time? Yes this is for a good cause, but why not just donate? Now I'm all for charity, but generally these charities have some sort of incentive to make the donors feel a sense of accomplishment while simultaneously including victims of whatever cause (for instance, breast cancer races generally have a bunch of breast cancer victims there and people support them during the run). But this seems like the opposite...donors are paying to incentivise other people to have fun. Isn't that a bit backwards...and kinda stupid? Post opinions. Post cats. Go.

  • 25 hours of gaming? Haven't people died due to blood clots while gaming for less time than that?

  • I'd do it if I still liked playing video games.

  • So? Why does it matter how you get the money? I would do this- doing something I want to do and helping people. Why not?

  • It would make sense if people who can livestream played games for 24 hours and had a donate link alongside it. I've actually seen it many times before.

  • 25 hours of straight gaming? Yeah that's not happening, my head would explode. I'd rather do something else to donate money.

People enjoy watching it, People Donate money while watching it, What's the problem? I know that Charity stuff usually is to do with funruns and marathons but not everyone is cut out for that sort of stuff. If they are able to raise money for a good cause by streaming themselves playing videogames for 25 hours straight then that's a good thing imo. It's easier to make people donate when they are being entertained/feel like they get something out of it. I've seen one of these raise £25k for a hostpital. From one person playing Minecraft and something else that I can't recall. That's £25,000 or about $40,000. One Person raised that for a hospital. It's certainly not something to be sniffed at.

    • Change video gaming to running. Then you have a real reason to donate.

    • What's the point of playing video games when somebody else is doing all the donating.

Who funds this? Or rather, who would fund this.

    • It raises money for a good cause. I don't give a -blam!- if it's running or playing video games.

      • I have energy saving light bulbs because I like convincing myself I give a f.uck about the environment. Next week I'll be wearing my pajamas for a day to help the homeless. A whole f.ucking day.
