To make this possible, it HAS to be a prequel. How the hell could you make a sequel and not have ANY reference to the original trilogy?

It doesn't have to be a prequel OR a sequel if its a completely new story

I guess by "prequel/ sequel" I meant that it takes place before or after the events of the original trilogy.

I know. But its not related to the original at all. So it'll technically be a "sequel" cause it'll be Mass Effect [u]4[/u], but it won't literally be a sequel.

Like Halo 3: ODST then?

That's what I'm thinking. Although, Halo 3: ODST takes place between Halo 2 and Halo 3. But you could look at it that way because the story follows different protagonists.
