What do you think of high school relationships?

Personally, I think they're worthless, but there have been a few times where I've been willing to risk it. I always think about how much I or the other person might be held back because of it, but I'd hate to see them with someone else. What do you guys think? Is the experience worth it, or should highschoolers wait until they are independent?

  • Agreed on the worthless part. I remember my dad saying to me, "Son you realize you are waisting all your money on somebody elses wife". How true were those words. I wish I had dated and had fun with more girls than the 3-4 I steady dated for months and months in a row.

    • Well, I'm in one, so there's that. But I don't think it should be taken uber-seriously.

    • Have fun with it and learn. Just because it won't last forever doesn't mean you'll get nothing from the experience. While I'm not married and have had many relationships, I don't regret dating any of them. They've given me invaluable experience, in various forms. ;D

    • Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

      • I think you should have fun while you can and not be hung up in whether it will last or not. You can't go through life thinking everything you do is worthless and not experience things. It's a good way to find yourself and experience the company of someone.

      • I know some cases where they evolved into marriage. My parent's case is one of them.

      • A girl I know got engaged senior year with a guy she had been going out with for a year and a half, and they only got to see each other a few times a year (long-distance relationship). I was like "Wat".

      • They may occasionally be useful for trial runs of actual relationships and learning the ropes.

            • People on their intellectual high horse debating whether love can take any sort of form in a high school society. Let love do its thing. Even if it's all for naught That's just a part of learning what love really is.

            • I'd only get into a relationship for one reason: I actually LOVE her, not a stupid crush. To often are these important relationships shallow and narrow minded, more "flings" than real love. They will preach commitment all the while Doing nothing on it. They are founded on things like sex, looks, popularity, loneliness, desperation.... Which will almost always come crashing down. People just don't seem to care about WHO their partner is. And "I love you" are 3 words that are said to much, but yet not nearly enough...

            • Me and my girlfriend have been together since we were 14, and we're nearly 19 now and have never broken up. If I'd thought they were worthless and hadn't bothered with her I would have lost out on so much. My parents were also 14 when they got together and 26 years later are still together, married for 19 years. I don't think they're worthless at all, if both people in the relationship make an effort and aren't doing it so they can say they have a BF/GF.

            • I think that most teenagers are usually too shallow and inexperienced to have lasting relationships. At least that's what I've seen from some of my friends who have had them.

                • A few of my friends I have graduated with have had long lasting relationships from the time we were Freshman. Now they are married and have kids. It all depends on the person. A lot of high school kids just don't have the commitment for a meaningful relationship at that point. To often in High school, having a relationship is seens as a status symbol. Those sorts of relationships never last. I have never personally agreed with that notion. But then again I am an old fashioned grump.

I think it's funny seeing some idiots getting boyfriend/girlfriend and seeing them break up a month later. They can be necessary to help your mistakes or other stuff, but a lot of times, they won't work out.
