I would say my pride comes from a communal source, my family and friends, the people im forced to live amongst, in hopes that if it ever got hairy, we would all unite together, irregardless of our differences.

  • Maybe I'm just a bit too optimistic in this regard. I feel like it shouldn't matter what nation you typically reside in when it comes to protecting those around you. On that note, is it national pride that you carry because you live with these people? Because I just don't see the two entirely fitting. I can certainly connect the dots and see how that would result, but it doesn't seem like it'd grow to be anything significant. Kinda just seems like it'd settle down to a "hey neighbor it's 4th of July, lets wave some flags and blow shit up!"

  • I guess there is a disconnect for me. I dont think my national pride is connected to my government, but the people who are here, and the ones who serve and protect each other. I despise the ones operating our government, but respect those(ie soldiers, police, firemen etc,) who protect it. I also know in terms of disasters, americans will overwhelmingly come together to assist each others, and those outside our country. I know from the numbers, the same cant be said about other countries from an article i read.

  • No worries here, everyone does. Though the final issue I guess would be what others define as "country". I usually assumed it only carried the definition of either land or government/establishments, however it doesn't seem to always carry the same one for other people. Certain connotations seem to vary for some people.
