I assume they want some amount of investment and commitment from the players that are testing the game. This Beta isn't some demo that you download, play for five minutes, then move on to the next free thing, it's a chance for fans to help Bungie polish the final game experience by simply doing what we do best.

Agreed. From what Bungie said in an interview with Gamespot, they want this to actually feel like the player is getting a full game package. Consider me gitty.
