From what I've seen most people think it looks terrible. Also it can't be the worst controller of all time because the N64 controller exists.

    Not really. Playstation controllers are similar in layout to the SNES controller. Xbox controllers, especially the original's Duke, are based on the Sega Dreamcast controller, which was based on the Sega Saturn 3D controller. I don't really need to say anything about Nintendo.

    Again, not really. Nintendo wasn't the first to offer an analog joystick on their controller. The Atari 5200 controller had an analog joystick. Granted, Nintendo was the first to use it for the purpose of movement in 3D games. But it was the dual-analog design by Sony with their later PS1 controllers that set the standard.
