As a spy use the marker ability. The stun works well to follow up with a lethal take down.
As a merc use the disrupt or ability to combat cloaked spies as well as a healthy distance from targets. Also, the whole premise is all about vantage points within the environment. Find them and use them.

I had that done to me actually, a guy stunned me with the crossbow then sprinted straight at me and stabbed me, couldn't do nothing. I was impressed. I've been using the Mark ability a lot so far and it seems really good for spotting Mercs, it's just closing the gap without getting gunned down that's the issue.
