Probably Borderlands style difficulty
Seamless difficulty based on a few factors
1. Your character level
2. The combined character level during co op play
3. The difficulty aspect ratio of the enemies

Or Dead Island Style. Each person faces enemies based on their own current level, regardless of people you play with. So Fireteam of lvls 5, 15 and 20 would face enemies as such: 5's vs. 5's 15's vs. 15's and 20's vs. 20's This keeps it challenging for everyone regardless of your level. Because in Borderlands the enemy scaling is slightly broke, try jumping in with a level 69 and 70 and you're only 50. Prepare to have your ass handed to you repeatedly.

I'm big fan of the Dead Island series and looking forward to Dying Light from Techland. That being said their leveling system has been one of the best iv'e ever experienced.
