Umm OP are you sure you have spend enough time on /a/ or what? There are tons of people on there that praise it, but there are also plenty of people that talk shit about it for a variety of reasons. Personally I think it is a good show and is a nice change from the cliches of the genre, but I definitely don't think it is the best thing ever. Also Eva is overrated.

Most of the people on /a/ who say Madoka Magica is bad are spammed to Hell in back by non stop statistics of awards it has won. Also I agree with Eva, especially Rebuild. It likes to wallow in it's own pretentiousness while trying too hard to be DEEP like NGE all while making the fans go "ooo" at every new Eva that flies on screen. And NGE likes to circle jerk to montages of flashy images while putting Vaginas on pedestals for Sexual innuendos.

The thing is a lot of those spammers are just trolls. However there are some people that actually give a lot of reasons why they view the show as bad or not interesting. Overall the show is deemed good by /a/, but there are people on there that don't like it for a lot of valid reasons. As for your Eva description that describes my opinion of Eva and its fanbase quite accurately.
