It is optional. This is not a matter of civil liberties or censorship; it is, at most, a matter of practicality. Statements like this give lefties a bad name.

Agreed. Though it being opt-out does make it seem more of an agressive stance against freedom than simply something for parents to utilise [u]if they so wish[/u]; which should be the point in the first place.

As far as I'm aware, every household will receive a notice from their ISP informing them of the filter and asking them if they'd like to receive it or not upon the filter going live (or people signing up for new plans after that), and if no response is given they'll just use the filter. That part of this is really a non-issue, as far as I can tell (although obviously I'm not British).

i can't seem to find anything talking about that (or any specifics actually other than the types of blocked content) but if that's true then my concernes are dampened somewhat.
