Go to setting to tinker with the way you want to view and be viewed here. You can change your profile picture, theme, name(s), and saying.
The Community forum is where you'll meet both new and old members who should be friendly enough to help you out. OffTopic can get tense at times.
Edit: Okay, that might have been an understatement. Just don't have an opinion and you'll be okay (for the most part). Otherwise, it's and interesting place.
