The main story was really good. Multiplayer and side quests did not interest me very much though.

Never played past rescuing a guy called Oliver, The only part past then I've seen was a friend in some kind of QTE in a dark room.

Yeah, you should have played more of the game. Get's more interesting and the buildup to the end is pretty good.
