The concept was good but the implementation of those concepts was fail (mainly due to lack of time and resources).
Shutdown's towers was supposed to be defended by the turrets seen on Midnight. There were probably going to be Banshees too. In the end, all we got were a bunch of Phantoms, a limited play space feigning the appearance of open world, and an overpowered vehicle...
And let's not get started on how bland the interior of those towers were. And how Didact's "attempts" to stop the player were barely any impediment.
There was not one memorable encounter about Shutdown compared to The Library and Sacred Icon/Quarantine Zone.
Course, Shutdown is much better than Halo 3 mission Cortana.

Well of course, gameplay wise I'm sure you know that I've got my fair share of qualms. Atmospherically though? I love that mission. Didact's voice, the references to outside material (even an allusion to the story of Prometheus- "You are a fool. Even now, your kind tinkers with the Composer in the shadow of the third ring. Children and fire, who disregard the welfare of the galaxy."), Cortana's actions at the end, the overall aesthetic flow...

Ah yeah, I loved Didact's dialogue on that mission. Thanks for reminding me. :3 What'd have made Composer's start more epic would have been to show us Chief hijacking the Lich. If it detracted too much from the story, they could have made it a Legendary exclusive easter egg or something. ;.;
-
Or we could have had an entire mission with space combat aboard the Lich. You know, legitimate space combat instead of the whole trench run thing? Halo 4's in need of more denouement/filler missions anyway. Right now it's just plot twist after plot twist. :P
-
Ha yeah, that'd have been awesome. And generic wave fighting. :/
-
Well some of it is engaging at times. Ex. 4 Elite Kamikaze. Though that's artificial interest I guess.
-
True, the Composer airlocks fight was a bit more creative (you have to make a decision: open airlocks and leave yourself vulnerable), plus it included a special unit (sword Ranger). It's a shame those 4 Elites do not spawn normally.
-
Oh yeah, the sword Ranger! I recall you having some pretty cool looking setups with him.

Edited by ZealotSG: 8/13/2013 11:53:28 PMHeh, glitching his melee behavior. I remember the time where he tried to ninja me. If only he was able to use his jump pack to jump back when I'm charging at him, that'd have been an interesting dynamic. Also, you can take him up to the walkways above, his pathfinding is pretty advanced.
