I think the S-IIs and even the S-IIIs would have been superior to S-IVs because they were trained since birth.

As a program, the Spartan-IIs were inferior to their successors. There were simply too few to effectively use. The IIIs and IVs had the numbers needed to fight the Covenant (or any other threat) in the long term.

Agreed. All I'm saying is that as individuals, the S-IIs and S-IIIs were superior to the S-IVs in almost every aspect (except, maybe the S-IIIs in size). But the S-IVs were much more effective for the UNSC.

The Spartan IIIs had inferior equipment to the Spartan IIs and Spartan IVs. Spartan IIs and Spartan IVs use Mjolnir armour, whereas the Spartan IIIs use SPI armour.
