A gun is a weapon. Weapons are deadly. Why was that guy in the wrong? Why do you feel the need to take a gun to a supermarket?

Oh, I agree, it [i]is[/i] an object. An object that just so happens to make us dangerous people even more dangerous. If people are dangerous to begin with, why give them a weapon that makes them even more dangerous? To defend themselves? Well that's all well and good, but what if someone without a gun gets attacked by someone with a gun? Then he's got no chance of fighting back. Getting rid of guns cuts down on gun crime. How is that hard to comprehend?
