Microsoft really should have just allowed gamers to use a regular Xbox 360 controller on their new console, and I believe the same goes for Sony and their PS3 controllers. The changes to the controller designs are marginal at best. Rumble feature in the triggers? A touch-pad? I'll admit that the PS3 controller has slippery triggers and the Xbox 360 controller has always carried an atrocious d-pad, but they're still pretty solid designs! Why not ship the new consoles with new controllers, but allow backward compatibility for current-generation controllers? I seriously doubt every game will make use of the PS4's touch-pad (and even fewer will utilize the bar of light on the front) or the Xbox One's trigger rumble feature outside of the way current rumble features are used. I think we're at the point of controller stagnation.

  • I turn the vibration off on my controllers. Honestly it's just too annoying sometimes. Trigger ruble packs ar eirrelevant to me. I'll be picking up one of the consoles much later, and hopefully I'll be able to find a used (preferably wired) controller somewhere on eBay by then.

  • Simple really, they want people to buy new peripherals. The profit margin off of peripherals compared to the console itself is far better.

  • Oh yeah, I know. The console makers have always lost money on the console itself, but I've heard that peripherals are surprisingly big money-makers for them.
