Lightsabers are not made of light... They most likely would be created by plasma held together with an artificial gravitational field

Edited by Wintermute: 7/26/2013 9:44:16 PMYou can manipulate most plasma with a magnetic field, but its so hot you would not want to be in the room with it.

True.. But if you have an artificial gravity field containing the plasma it could also create an artificial atmosphere around the handle preventing you from being harmed
-
That is one hell of a lot of gravity, even the suns massive gravity can't contain all that heat.
-
Yes that is true... A magnetic field could contain the plasma but I don't think magnetic fields can contain heat... Besides the mass required to contain such a gravitational field would be massive
-
I don't know a whole lot about magnetics. Is it possible that the field, and therefore the plasma, would wrap itself around magnetic objects?
-
Well magnetism and gravity are two different forces... Theoretically if the Higgs field exists (the field which gives all objects their mass) then the field could be manipulated changing the mass of objects and giving them artificial gravity... With magnetism the plasma and the magnetic field would have to have like charges so they would repel each other and the plasma would be contained...
