other things have tested for the Plague before. It wouldn't be as deadly now as it was back then though

It's still not as deadly. The change in mentality that plague brought on and the medical reasearch that was done as well has helped turn that plague into a much less deadly entity than it was back then. Back then it was so deadly because rats were not controlled, there were no quarantines, medical help as almost a joke, sanitation was laughable. All those contribute to how deadly it was. Now if the plague were to hit a major third world country, then that place would be -blam!-ed.

Killing a quarter (I think) of the total human population would likely not happen.

but it will kill people. there is no vaccine or cure.

That's not the point I'm trying to make. It most certainly wouldn't be as devastating as it was back in the dark ages.
