He was being a redneck.
He said that people "were trying to break into his car."
Yet:
Taking the vice president’s advice, Barton says he used his shotgun defensively. The Washington man says that people from a nearby party were trying to break into his car. Police have not found proof of this yet.
If there HAD been a legitimate incident, he would likely have been told "Good Job."

the point is the toplol troll tier advice got someone in trouble for breaking the law. everyone came out against his advice after he said it, because it was illegal.

But he didn't fire his shot gun to defend himself or his property. He just fired it and then said his drunken neighbors were breaking into his car (which had no signs of an attempted break in) In otherwords, he just went outside and shot his gun in the air.

which is what VPOTUS said to do. it wouldn't have been legal defense in any scenario and would have been multiple charges. and a double barrel would be out of ammo and need a long reloading sequence that eats vital seconds. this is why it's hilariously bad advice.

If someone is actually trying to rob him. Had someone been legitimately trying to rob his hillbilly ass, then likely the police would have said, good job sir. Instead we have a redneck who pulled the redneck get off my lawn routine, which is illegal and non-condonable. You want lulz at Biden's expense on this issue? Find a story where someone was breaking in, and the person did fire the shotgun in the air, and the homeowner got arrested. Then lul at him all day. This wasn't what Biden was talking about.

most places in the US except duty to retreat states do not allow warning shots, as the individual castle doctrines vary from state to state but most all have no duty to retreat. most others can call it brandishing, terroristic threats, assault, etc. and would allow the criminal to press charges. so not really. you'd have to see your individual state laws and consult your lawyer to find out your state's laws..
