No, 0.999 is not 1, and the OP isn't trying to prove that. OP proves that [b][i]0.999...[/i][/b] is 1. 0.999... being 0.99999999999999999999, with the nine repeating into infinity. Read the post and you'll get it better.

If you get paid .999 on the dollar you eventually will make less then a guy earning at 1.0
