Terrible pay? My son's teacher makes over 100k including benes and only works 185 days a year. No respect? From who? What does no respect for their lifestyle even mean? From my experience teachers have it pretty good. They have nothing to complain about. - Der

 • The average public school teacher in America makes $42,781 per year, and a teacher starts working a month before summer ends. A teacher almost never gets respect from those they teach, just think back to when you were younger. Not to mention that parents are almost nonexistent in their child's education these days.

 • Starts working a month before summer ends? Do you mean summer vacation? the 3 months they don't work or the actual end of summer, meaning they return to work at the end of August? The teachers I know, some related to me, some not, do not start back to work a whole month before the children return. What the hell do they do for a whole month without kids to teach? That's just not true. I had respect for the teachers that deserved it, but wasn't disrespectful to any of my teachers. The average salary for full-time public school teachers in 2010–11 was $56,069 in current dollars, not bad for only working 185 or so days a year. I guarantee it's gone up since 2010 - 2011. - Der

 • They return a month before the vacation time ends, to start preparing for the school year. There is paper work and full faculty as well as departmental meetings. Not to mention that a teacher has to take into account what the newest federal and state education standards are for that year, which seemingly change with the wind.
I had respect for the teachers that deserved it, but wasn't disrespectful to any of my teachers.
While it is great that you respected teachers, I don't mean just you, I meant for you to take note of those around you, and how they treated your teachers. If you haven't seen a student treat a teacher poorly, then you must have attended an amazing institution. While highschool teachers are important, they are nothing without the teachers before them. Source.

 • Nope that was for all full time public school teachers you didn't specify a particular group. Yeah, they have a few meetings, it's in their contract, they get paid for it. What I'm saying is they aren't working a full month before the students arrive, which is what you were implying. As for respect, as students we knew which were the good and bad teachers and the teachers knew who the good and bad kids were. Respect is earned on both sides. Nothing is going to change that. - Der
