Am I the only person who thinks that 343 is doing this right? They're bringing back classic armor, a map EVERYONE loves, as well as things like new skins and stances. And none of it is gameplay altering. It's just cosmetic. That's how you are supposed to do it.
Edit: 11+ likes and good comments. I am not alone.

"And none if it is gameplay altering..." Not in this DLC pack, no. but they did just alter the entire sandbox instead of just fixing the two problem weapons. And infinity slayer lol. The game had amazing potential but 343 doesn't seem to know how to manage a game. It really showed when they took over reach. It was a disaster, IMO.
-
Nerfing the DMR was only part of the problem. The Carbine was still too weak and kill times in general were too slow.

While I am glad 343i is bringing back The Pit and classic armor, it only reinforces the idea that everything pre-Halo 4 is superior. Take for example when 343i had to lessen the likelihood of Ragnorok being a votable map in the MM lobby because people complained that it was always voted above the actual Halo 4 maps. Halo 4 should have its own memorable map that everyone wants to play, but a majority of the maps are focused around cluster run and gunning void of any areas a team should try to hold. Don't get me wrong. I want Halo 4 to be the superior Halo, because it ought to be. It's the latest one. The problem is that it simply is not. And this was what disappointed me the most. Hopefully 343i will make a radical change for the better with Halo 5.
-
That doesn't really reinforce the fact that pre-halo 4 content is superior. It only means that people like the old maps. Like bloodgultch. That map was one of the most asked for in the entire series.
-
But my point was that there were no Halo 4 maps everyone is dieing to play to compete with Ragnorok. Every time Ragnorok showed up, it was uncontested by any of the other maps. 343i failed to create an original map capable of competing with Ragnorok. There were some good ones, but no great ones.
-
Exile, was an example. Plus not all of their maps can e played on any game type making the choice a little bit slimmer.
-
Frankie said on NeoGaf that they're going to do everything more carefully, so that's hopeful, at least.

I agree, but I think that they should curve the road a little. Most of the stuff didn't work, I'll admit, but for what did work (like Spartan Ops- even though it had recycled levels, it was a good concept) they should keep and improve it on. And there's nothing wrong with helping new players find success if they don't crutch the system.
-
I completely agree with them improving on existing systems, but they should bring back other systems and features they trashed as well. Here's what they meant by helping new players.
"We wanted to help new players find success, help them get power weapons in ordnance that they might never have gotten a hold of before" "We want to make Halo more accessible and easier to succeed at" "Halo always had a steep learning curve that threw players off, we wanted to change that"
They wanted to take the competitive out of multiplayer. And I doubt Halo5 will have nearly as long a life span if they implement the "let the undeserving player win". Vanilla Halo is a great multiplayer game because as my friend who played Halo a few times said, "Getting kills is satisfying." Getting kills is satisfying because you earned them. You proved you were the better player. You had a moment where your skill was higher than theirs. If they continue the way they are going, it won't be good for the already dieing franchise. The best thing they could do, was as you said, bring back a Halo3esk multiplayer, which everything Handicapped Halo points against.
-
If they bring back the kind of multiplayer in 3 I will be happy, because either way Microsoft will milk halo for money, I would rather keep seeing a good multiplayer then a bad one.
-
A brilliant map in H3 is still a shit map in a game with terrible MM.
-
I won't debate that. However this shows 343 is trying to win back the older and competitive communities. What do you think this says about Halo 5?
-
That unless they take Halo back to its roots, people like me will stop buying/playing the franchise they have loved for over a decade.
-
I'd say they are making an effort to do just that. They brought back the 4sk BR, as well as some classic armor and a Halo 3 map everyone loves. I'd say that counts as trying. I hope their efforts carry over into Halo 5.
-
I do agree with you, but primarily aesthetic changes aren't what I care about. H4 has a remake of Valhalla (my favourite Halo map, bar none), but the gameplay is still atrocious, despite this addition.
-
I know. That was before they tried to win back the fans they lost. I'm just saying that this trend could expand beyond aesthetics in Halo 5. Hey, we'll see, right?
-
Let's keep fingers, toes and winkles crossed.
-
Newb. You forgot arms and legs. ;)
-
Yeah I agree. The only reason they couldn't add this stuff in at launch was because of Microsoft. They were so pressed for time that all the little things had to wait
-
I'd personally disagree with that. If I were Microsoft, I would have delayed it a year and brought Halo 4 as "The Big" Launch Title for the One. That extra year could have allowed for a Beta Test and some other things that could have made it perfect. My bet is that 343 didn't realize the mistakes they were making, and are now trying to recapture the old community. Watching this whole thing go down is rather interesting.
-
I see what you're saying but I respectfully disagree. Microsoft has been milking halo for a long time. They want as many halo games as possible with 2 years in between while Bungie made Halo with 3 years in between. In their eyes it's like "why wait to get money when we can get money now". Hey, I could be totally wrong or I could be spot on. It's just my opinion
-
I don't know...have they filled those pretty maps with the evil of infinity slayer? If yes then I have no reason to come back. They lost me months ago.
-
If they would make Infinity Slayer a "Special" gametype instead of a standard one, it wouldn't be that bad. It's just that Halo 4 is built around it. What makes this good for the overall series is that it shows that 343 is trying to appeal to the old community. Bringing back a map like The Pit, bringing back ODST and Mk. V Armor, plus what is believed to be Assault. While it is a bit late for 4, what does it say about 5? 4 has not even been out a year and 343 is already trying to get the old community back. That makes me hopeful for Halo 5. Wary, but hopeful.

I lost faith in 343's ability to make Halo. But these little changes will allow me to keep an eye on what they do for the next game on Xbox One.
