I like it: they come out stating how detrimental and unfair their old model of networking was. The same model the Xbox console had been using since 2002—and they had the nerve to ask for a subscription fee for Xbox Live, even though the clients where the ones hosting the games! Now they say they'll use dedicated servers—the fairer, better alternative—, which have been used in online gaming on the personal computer since at least 1993. Even with dedicated servers real-time online gaming is never fair. It never will be due to latency. That's just the nature of the beast though, so I find Abbie Heppe's comment of "nobody should have an artificial advantage in a competitive multiplayer game" a bit asinine. I guess you can say whatever you want when you think you're talking to a crowd that has no idea what you're saying ):- (

  • Proper servers at least mitigate unfair advantages as opposed to P2P. I wouldn't say the crowd has no idea what is being said. That is moreover what MS assumed.
