Xbox One is a bridge between last gen and the only-digital gen. Things are a bit shaky, but later on down the line, I see Microsoft having their console without a disc drive and delivering deals like Steam.

That's why it's a bridge. It still takes discs at the moment, they want to make sure that within that 24 hour period, you didn't illegally get rid of the disc (since you don't need discs to play games once installed).
-
So why not switch fully to digital download? The ability to play the game without a disc is cool, but nobody was really begging for that. We want full digital or full disc, not this halfway shit. They only included this ability so they'd have an excuse to fight used gaming.

You have the ability to go fully digital download with the Xbox One, in fact, it helps you share your games easier than with the disc. Up to 10 people in your "family" can share games you purchase digitally.
