Right, first off - how do you hangout in a bookstore? Maybe we have different bookstores, but what the hell do you do in a bookstore besides buying books? Is there like a combined Starbucks?
Let her bring a friend OP, just be dominant in conversations, without seeming like a prick. Whatever there talking about just jump in, or say something funny. Let if flow for a bit, then start asking about dates n' crap.

She likes reading books. And I wanted to know some of the books that she likes so I can read them too. There is a coffee shop, but we werent there for coffee. I was jumping in, but I wasnt being dominant. asking about dates? what do you mean?

Well, you were asking should I ask her out on a date - ask her when everything is comfortable, when you feel like you don't even have to try anymore (kind of, don't get cocky). When you're both comfortable with each other, the time is right. But you gotta build it up, without becoming too much of a friend, otherwise...

But if you still give her friend a fair amount of respect and recognition, then she'll still like you as a friend (if you take the time to befriend her). You can get to know her, as a friend. Then you're in the perfect position to ask out her friend, the one you like.

I dont think she ever talked to me directly, I've only met her once. I mean, she's nice...but I like the girl I wanted to hang out with. not her friend...geez...if I went out with her friend, the original girl would hate me. I would hate to do that to the girl I like.

What I'm saying is, direct your all of your interest into the girl you want to go out with. Then give some recognition to her friend, so you don't look like a selfish prick. Example, if you having a conversation with your missus, bring her friend into it, don't give her the attention, but don't leave her out. You'll look like a talkative and friendly guy to all. Sorry, it is hard for me to explain this if you don't understand.
