Tom, I just followed you to make up for it. Mind you, I thought I was following you already but... eh. To be honest the follow feature seems to be completely and utterly useless. It serves no purpose, and the blue bar next to threads? I can honestly say that unless somebody just mentioned it in a thread, I have never once noticed if a thread had the bar or not. It's so out of the way. And I have never gone on the 'activity' page... eh. Followers seem more like a 'Your posts are entertaining and I want you to know that' type thing rather than anything that serves any real purpose.

  • I find it very useful. Then again, I use the Activity page probably more often than the average user. It's literally the first thing I check every time I sign in.

  • Can't say I've gone on it once. Mind you, all my bookmarks take me to the forums... Also, you're unfollowed because you disagreed with me in public! WE AGREED TO KEEP THAT TO THE BEDROOM MISTER! >.> <.< >.> <.<

  • How come? I dunno I just don't really see a point to it. On twitter, people that follow you see your posts more or something (I don't use twitter so meh). But here, the people that would follow anybody anyways are already using the forums (alliteration ahoy!) and since you can see everything at a fine pace from the forums, there just really doesn't seem to be any real benefit to following people. I don't see their content more. Shoot, I don't even notice the blue line so I certainly don't NOTICE their content more. Seems to me like it's more of a pat on the back. Mind you I'm OK with that. :P

We have very different opinions on how the following system actually works on this site, but what would a feature be if we didn't use it the way that we see fit? The Activity Feed is GOLDEN to me but I, for one, enjoy every single person that I follow. They are literally a huge reason why I continue to come to these forums. If I see some have posted in a thread then I will more than likely be interested in that thread. If I see some have liked a certain thread, chances are that I will as well. As hard as it may be to believe, I'm not on this site 24/7 and the amount of interesting opinions, discussion and just funny conversations.. would be completely missed by me if not for the Activity feed. To me, following is so much more than just a pat on the back, a measure of popularity or bragging rights.

  • Fair enough. You have more of a life than I, I suppose- I'm on these forums enough to where I really just don't miss threads I like very often, as far as I am aware. Since I see the things right away, the activity feed just doesn't benefit me much since it takes me away from the hub where I can see those things AND things I didn't know I wanted to see yet. I imagine that when the site explodes as we get closer to Destiny it may very well turn out for me like it does for you. It's just that right now it seems more or less useless to me that's all.

  • Hover over your name and choose activity. Then you'll see what the feature is suppose to do.

  • That was my initial impression. Then I discovered the Activity page, and made a point of following a number of prominent posters, from diverse interest groups, in the hope that I would populate my feed with a diverse selection of the best threads. Has worked very well so far, I hardly see the need to browse the forums at all (in fact I often just check the Activity page) - although if everyone did this it would be less effective.
