With how much Bungie is focusing on getting you to be your own character, i can hardly assume that your multiplayer character will not be your actual character....You'll be taking your own character in for sure, now they might give you load out weapons, or they might just say, -blam!- it, go in with everything and if you die because your level is low then level up noob! (thats the classic mmorpg approach...) However i don't see this happening because Bungie has always been about starting players off on an even footing and letting player skill be the deciding factor... The difficulty here is that that's easy when everyone is Master Chief, but Destiny has different classes which makes things a little more difficult.... I believe that each player will be given a battle proficiency rating bases on their level, attributes, perks, gear, powers, and so forth so that each player is given a number, and then it'll add those numbers together to create a battle proficiency rating for the team, and then match that team up with another team of the closest rating...

Sure. However, like Reach's BPR, I think actual player skill should factor in as well. Because let's be honest, not all FPS players are created equal and a player's level is only going to do so much for them. Here's where I think you run into problems with this. I have a group of guys I've been playing with since Halo 2. We all have varying degrees of skill and vary in the amount of time we can play. One of my friends plays significantly less than any of us but is consistently the best player. So, say we want to team up in multiplayer? Now in Halo, rank was used to gauge a person's skill primarily using their k/d ratio, overall kills per match, etc. but it took time to build rank. Since there was a level playing field as far attributes go, there's wasn't an issue with finding fair games because matchmaking would try to pair your group with another group of similarly skilled players. It wasn't perfect but it largely worked. However, with attributes, say my highly skilled friend is a lower level player. Will I even be able to enjoy matchmaking with him? He might have better reflexes and strategic thinking but a player's attributes could significantly negate his skill. So in terms of enjoying multiplayer with long established friends with a varying range of abilities, how would that work in your system?

  • Well in such a system, it'd still work fine... Lets say that you and your buddy are playing team doubles, and for simplicity's sake lets say all of the weapons being used are comparable... Supposing that you are level 30 and your buddy is level 10, then the ideal match for your team is two people whose levels are each 20, so while their a higher level than him, they're also a lower level than you, so if you enjoy pounding other people into the ground, then yes you'll still enjoy multiplayer with your friend... in fact, you'd enjoy it more because his lower BPR due to a lower level decreases the BPR for your entire team which means that you'll be pared with an easier team to face, and since your friend has superior skills, the situation is ideal because he'll be the one most likely to make up for his lower level with straight up skillz that killz! Also with his more strategic mindset, he'll know that he's fighting an up-hill battle and won't run about taking unnecessary risks, he'll exploit the confidence of higher level players, play cat-and-mouse with them, and lead them straight into an ambush that he set up with you over coms. so that they're chasing him then all of the sudden your Titan plants a rocket into their whole party... Now these things work in your case because your friend ins't an idiot, however that's more than can be said for most players so i'll assume that there'll probably be more balancing than just that...
