I doubt that.
I have a theory as well, I think Vanguard isn't a class, but an organization. Vanguard could be what all the Guardians are a part of. If you look at the Frontier page, and scroll to Venus and Mars, it says, "awaiting report from the vanguard" or something like that. So I'd assume it would have something to do with information, hence being an organization.
Just my two cents.

Possibly Destiny's version of ONI, minus all the political intrigue and military-grade secrets. Of course, that is a big, BIG stretch, but I'm simply spit-balling here.

Especially sense its "The Vanguard" and not "The Vanguards" or "Vanguards" And the formal definition of a Vanguard is actually not a type of soldier, but a military formation used on the front lines. I was never completely serious with this thread anyway.
