It wasn't so much fear of corruption, more fear of Mordor and those mean-ass Ringwraiths and it being a lot more trouble than it's worth in their view.

Even so, don't they see saving the free world as a worthy enough cause to lay down a few lives for it? I'm not buying it. If Sauron took over, they'd be as screwed as everyone else.
