When the effects of party affiliation, political ideology, and media distrust were removed from the analysis, the belief in the “Second Coming” increased this effect by almost 20 percent.
. . .
That very sentiment has been expressed by federal legislators. Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) said in 2010 that he opposed action on climate change because “the Earth will end only when God declares it to be over.” He is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy.
This is scary, frankly. Religion is fine up to the point it starts having negative real-world effects. Like giving folks an excuse to bury their heads in the sand about climate change.
Meanwhile here I am in central Texas, it's -blam!-ing May and it's 55°F outside. Yeah, nothing weird there, climate change is a farce . . .

Edited by BADMAGIK: 5/2/2013 8:52:11 PMThe sun is reaching it's peak 11 year weather cycle. It is perfectly normal for the weather to be acting funny as the sun is spewing larger solar flares on a more consistent basis. Guess what? 11 years ago, a similar thing was happening. The weather will continue to get a little more crazy as the sun's temper tantrum increases. Then the sun will cool back down and the process starts all over again.
Guess what? 11 years ago, a similar thing was happening.
Mind = -blam!-ing blown You're totally right. I remember this happening precisely 11 years ago, it was odd seeing people in letterman jackets in May. I think we also had a rainy summer (working on a car lot that was a 5-acre heatsink, this was hell), so here's hoping that part happens again as well.
