Why would they do that? If they tortured him, then they wouldn't be able to tell the world how nice and merciful they are. N. Korea has repeatedly said that they want to engage in talks with the U.S. for food aid, and torturing an American really wouldn't help with that. And of course, torture is a waste of time. All N. Korea has to do is make shit up. If he doesn't confess to anything? Fine, just say that he did.
