and this is why Australia is pretty amazing.

Exactly like Canada. Although, the last two times I accidentally cut my hands open, I was getting stitched up within 10 minutes of getting there.

I remember when I snapped the bones in my right arm, I was forced to wait for ~6 hours to get looked at. Wasn't a pleasant day. I guess it would be different if I had cut myself though... but it still hurt a lot.

You could have paid for private care to have it fixed faster, if you were willing. It's nice to have a slower, free option for people who can't afford private healthcare.

Oh of course. We couldn't afford private healthcare at the time, so we were forced to go public.
-
So better a long wait than no healthcare?

Snapped bones aren't an immediate concern though. Exact same outcome whether they saw you within 1 hour or in 6. It's likely they had more pressing concerns to deal with.

Edited by Jaaake AU: 4/27/2013 3:18:24 PMYeeeah, I recognise that haha. It's all about priorities. I have heard of women who were going into labour being forced to wait for a while too though. Free healthcare is good, but it isn't without its serious drawbacks. Private needs to be more affordable.
