While I do agree with what you've outlined above, I highly doubt space exploration will be a large part of Destiny. From all we've seen, I believe Destiny is not going to feature a physical persistent world. It is instead going to be made up of bite-sized mission maps that you explore and experience dynamic content. Remember first and foremost that even more than it is an RPG, it is an action-game. Therefore count on a lot of jumping directly into the action with little downtime in between.
I don't want to bash your enthusiasm for the concept as I think it would work great in some circumstances. But from all I've seen, I just don't see it possible within the scope of Destiny's design paradigms.

What about the empty space station that they showed? How players would be encouraged to 'explore' it? How would players do that without some sort of space travel (without just using it for something like fast travel)?
-
Local space combat map area + Station Interior Map. Long distance travel will most likely be handled via cutscene, throwing you directly into the action of fighting ships and then infantry.

So you think you won't be able to find places? It'll just be an illusion of finding areas, but really you'll just be thrown into maps and combat? I wonder how that will work... What you're saying is logical and makes perfect sense... I'm just trying to picture it. To put it into a scenerio... lets say you get in your ship in the last city... then go to Mars. It would make sense for that to be a fast travel scenerio. What you're saying is that it'll dump you close to the Mars orbit and you can explore a map area in space? Or are you saying that in your fast travel you could get stopped halfway and put into a combat area/mini map (like Dragon Age)? Hmmm...

What is there to find? There are 9 planets in the solar system with nothing in between them. You can explore the planets but there isn't much to explore in space.

*Eight planets*

GDC presentation mentioned derelict space stations. I don't know about you, but I'm up for scavenging space stations.

Edited by Makeshyft: 4/26/2013 8:51:11 PMIt all has to do with what I've interpreted the "Main Menu" screen shown in the ViDoc. I've summarized my thoughts here.

I'm going to read it right now, but they did say that there would be no main menu. I'm still wondering if that section of the ViDoc is going to be implemented into the game at all, and if it is, how it could possibly not be called a main menu.

Perhaps a "Party Screen"?

Edited by RAIN Angels: 4/27/2013 3:28:03 AMAlthough I've commented on your thread Euphorius, I will comment here as if I had no read it. I think that some form of space exploration would have to be limited, else it would change the game in unplanned ways. It would also require a large amount of work.
