[b]I'm not sure[/b] but I was under the impression that "likes" contributed to the popularity of a thread or reply and affects its position on the board.

Correct. When you like a 1st level comment, it will bump the [b]comment[/b] (and it's sub-replies) to the top of the page within the thread, but only for users that view threads by popularity. It does not bump the thread itself to the top of the forum index. In order to bump the thread, you have to post as a 1st level comment, or a reply to a 1st level comment.

So liking doesn't actually do anything to the thread itself in the forum?
