Came into this thread thinking Halo 4. What struck me wasn't that I didn't remember anything, it's that for the first time in a Halo game, I didn't care.
I've criticized Reach a lot in the past for not quite delivering fully in its execution of a more stoic and sad Halo, but it was still memorable and distinctly Halo. Halo 4 on the other hand could have easily been any space-marine themed shooter.

Except for criticizing Reach, same here. I just didn't care about anything in Halo 4, in fact, it all just made me mad...it made me want to forget everything about the game and not remember it, and all in all, I'd say it was pretty successful, I have to actually really think about it when I want to try and remember anything from the game. All of the characters are underdeveloped and just come across as walking stereotypes and caricatures. The Didact is an especially weak one, there's no depth there, he just comes across as your typical "destroy all life in the universe while cackling evilly" villain that you'd get on Saturday morning cartoon...and a bad one at that. It's an especially bad point as all throughout the Halo franchise and even 343i's own Forerunner Saga, the Didact has been nothing but heroic. Halo 4 holds no fascination or awe for me, on it's own the story wouldn't be anything I'd care about, and as a Halo game and part of the Halo story? It's utterly horrid and an absolutely betrayal of the series....and this is the story I'm talking about here, the actual key part and very core of the game....and they screwed it up massively.
