Just do it on some wood. Practice on something your not going to use first.

how long does it need to heat up? Held it in place at 50W for like 2-3 minutes and no seen effects.

hard to tell. they are all different. Just plug it in and leave it for 5 minutes or so and test it.

So it needs some time to heat up? Should I heat it up before holding it to the Solder or keep it on it as it heats.
