Aren't a lot of Chechen people Muslims? We could link it with Islamic terror. Although let me be clear, I don't think all Muslims are terrorists or all terrorists are Muslims.

They could also be Chechen separatists, for all we know (though Muslim extremism is much more likely).

You'd think a Chechen separatist would be going after Russia, though. Not that you are wrong though, it could be to just make a statement. Though bombing the Kremlin or Red Square would be a more powerful one.
