To me when I was playing it, it wall depended on the gametype, then the host.
BTB - forget it. It is going to lag because it just is not set up for that many connections to work well.
Foreign host is and will continue to be the plague for all US based gamers. Their infrastructure abroad darn near guarantees that they will be host, and due to distance we will always be behind them in game. Developers need to get a region specific search selection available for all to be able to chose from.

I don't know to what extent you mean region specific but if you literally mean an option in the menu where you can search USA only, and possibly from different coasts or timezones, then yes, that would be perfect

Every night playing the past 5 years you can tell at the time the west coasters come online, for the games start getting laggy. Playing against them is tolerable compared to playing against Alberta and BC Canadians, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Germany, Spain, UK, Austarilia, France,..... These are the most common ones I see. They are all 4 bar green, everyone else is yellow, some red. There is no reason the games can not be set so that these pairings no longer happen. 'Best' connection means literally nothing in search parameters from what I've seen.

I see I'm in Maryland but it's ludicrous how every match has some level of lag
