Man, I haven't played a game of pool in forever, but it seems like that was always the rule here. So, yes.

Balls were in hand for everyone. And they all had to go to the kitchen. Very egalitarian.

When you said "So, yes." I assumed that men could put the cue ball anywhere on the table after a foul, but females we restricted to placing the cue ball in the kitchen when you played.
