Why do we teach kids to be honest, then lie as a society?

Think about it, parents are always saying you should be honest with everybody yet they lie constantly to you and those around them/you. Then you grow up and you learn to make "white lies" and you need to be able to talk a load of bull in job interviews to get a job. What's the point of teaching us to be honest when we spend the rest of our lives lying? Hell most people are proud when their kids lie when they get into trouble, you know the line "But I didn't do it" despite being the only person in the room at the time. As far as im concerned if your kid doesn't do that at some point, you raised them wrong.

    • I dislike lying, but often find myself in a situation were it is better than telling the truth.

      • Because everyone is a giant flaming hypocrite. I see it all the time a shopping marts and convenience stores. Everyone is so worried about lines and those who got here first should get serviced first. I've nearly seen fist fights break out over some guy who cuts in line. But the minute a new cashier opens up? The guy at the end of the line will practically run to be the first person there.

        • We don't lie as a society. Even worse, we actually believe the shit that comes out of our mouths.

          • Perhaps because kids don't have anything real significant to lie about nor do their lies or truth have any real consequences.

          • Learning how and when to lie is a normal part of development, actually. But it's hard to spot problems in someone who lies constantly.

            • What are you tempted to lie about in job interviews?
