Did...you miss all those Destiny topics, science topics, and various other media-related minutia topics? There have been plenty of recent topics that were "serious" and recent.
What do you filter? I presume you drink from the firehose and select "latest". If so, that is the spammiest option. Change your filters or look up specific tags, and you should find something you like.

Regarding the filter option it wouldn't change much. All you are doing is limiting the overall spam you see not improving the overall quality.

I don't think the OP, you, me, or anyone else will change these boards all that much. We can use the tools at our disposable to hide the crap we don't want to see though. Since that is really our only option, its what I suggested. I'm not knocking the OP for wanting the topics to pick up in quality. That's fine. I'm saying I doubt its going to happen, but we have other ways of dealing with it.
