I think it more just coincidence because floating orbs are common in other sci-fi things.

Maybe, I just found it interesting that it was mainly the Fallen the spheres where show with. As I said, it could just be the common ai vessel or battle companion, and it just so happens most of the images we see of them are with the Fallen. But, I think they're connected in some way.
