My "O Brave New World" Backpack is ripping a lot!!!
I got a Bungie backpack when they first came out and over the last several months it has worn till it began ripping.

I didn't carry that much stuff in it other than a few textbooks and a laptop. I have never had a backpack rip this bad, certainly not one that costs $90.00 (which is a lot of money for backpacks I could of paid $20.00 that never would gave ripped). Has anyone else bought one of these and had any problems? I am really curious because I have never had a backpack I bought ever get ripped this badly.

I've had the same problem. In a lot of resuable grocery bags, there's a sheet of tough plastic that you can cut to fit the bottom of the bag. Sometimes it's long enough that it can curve, so books and whatnot don't pull and the damaged seams. And duct tape.

1 ReplyIt's an Ogio pack, and they are well-known for decent design and construction. Mine (identical to yours) has been handling my carry and travel (along with being kicked under the airliner seat in front of me) for over a year and other than some scuffs, appears to be holding up to my abuse almost as well as my previous pack (a Wenger). Your images appear to show either a seam failure (due to a snag or internal stress from being heavily loaded/pressured). Perhaps someone with some sewing skills (and the appropriate needles and high-durability thread) could patch it, I don't know. Or, you could try contacting the manufacturer and see if they offer a repair/refurbish service.

$90?! My $40 Swiss Gear backpack has been holding 4 huge text books, an iPad, and my big clunky laptop for almost a year now with not even a tear. That's a damn shame man, hopefully Bungie or the maker can do something about it. Can you send it back?

That sucks man. :( I do like the way the Bungie backpack looks, but I never seriously considered buying it because of it's price when other $30 backpacks are bigger and stronger(albeit less stylish). I guess your only hope is some sewing/riveting.

1 ReplyI haven't had a single problem with mine. You need to take better care of your things, I think. Textbooks have sharp corners a lot, by the way. So... watch out for that, since there's really no way the top of a backpack would rip of its own, and that bottom one is a huge rip so there's no way that happened by itself.
