When you type, do you single space or double space after a period?
Is it wrong to use a double space? Some claim so. [url=http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/technology/2011/01/space_invaders.single.html]I just read a full article on what has more etiquette and how it "should" be done[/url]. Fortunately for typing online, whether you use single or double spacing, it will automatically get rid of "extra space" in your posts and articles, so everyone reads it the same way.
Is there a "correct" way? Some people just grow up in school using double spaces while typing on computers to it's just out of habit now.

When I first started typing in elementary school, I was taught to double space after periods Now, I just don't use them

Single. I've never heard of a format where double spacing is still used throughout all my years studying English.

With the introduction of proportional fonts used in word processors, web pages, and everywhere else now, two spaces after a sentence is now arcane. No typing or English teacher should ever be requiring two spaces after a period. If they do, feel free to refer them to the Chicago Manual of Style, where it is NOT recommended except for monospaced fonts (which nobody uses anymore). See Sec. 2.9: "Like most publishers, Chicago advises leaving a single character space, not two spaces, between sentences and after colons used within a sentence, and this recommendation applies both to manuscripts and published works."

I've never heard of people putting two spaces after a full-stop. But then, I also don't give a flying -blam!-. OT: No, there's no correct way. For just about any grammatical issue you can think of, there's no 'correct' way.

I've been taught to single space all my life. I can see how for some people it might be harder to read, without an extra space to seperate sentences though.

I don't think there can be a "more" or "less" when it comes to be grammatically correct so I don't think either is right or wrong it's about preference. Didn't read Foman's post, I guess there is a right and wrong then.

I've been asked to double space before, I'm sure some style manual somewhere's responsible... I just wrote my essay normally and then used the "find and replace" feature to add in the extra spaces.

Single space. Never thought of doing a double space sounds unusual. I have heard of people making the period a larger font to make their reports meet a length requirement which is pretty creative

I always double space after periods because I prefer how it looks; but I cannot imagine how someone could get so worked up about such a minor thing.

Period is American for full stop, apparently. That's weird. Period implies a short length of time before a continuation, which would be a comma.
