Wouldn't it be cool if we all had the kinds of money for these causes that they actually deserve? Sadly, I don't. $50 is a big donation for me. Right now, it's all I can spare (actually...a little more than I can spare, given that I'm meant to be saving every penny I get). I'm doing this to raise awareness for smaller organisations that don't get the kind of press they deserve. 500 likes and shares is a big deal for a place like a local shelter for victims of LGBT violence, or a counselling service staffed by volunteers that people don't know exists, and for places like that, $50 is an equally significant donation. If I could afford hundreds, you can bet I'd be doing it. Some day, I will. For now, this is what I can spare, and I'm trying to give it in a way that raises awareness for the cause at the same time.

In that case (and that's perfectly commendable, don't get my wrong) just donate the $50. Sure, get people to like and share the post. But still donate it.

Not only am I planning to do just that (but shhh, don't tell anyone!), I'm considering upping the total to something like $60-75 if I do go a little over the 500 like/share threshold. This is a cause that's really important to me, which is why I won't shut up about it (much to people's annoyance, sometimes!). Not only do I self-identify as a queer girl (I'm bisexual), but I have a lot of gay, trans, queer, androgynous and other friends who regularly face gender and sexuality discrimination and are prevented from living happy and fulfilling lives because of it. I can't save the world on my own, but I can do everything I can to help! That's basically what this is about - me doing my bit. I would very much appreciate the support of anyone willing to give it.

You don't understand what I'm saying. If you get 400 likes/shares, will you donate $50? The limit you're placing on the social media of others is what I have the issue with. If you're willing to donate up to $50, donate the entire $50.
