• God damnit! I agree. I just could not put it down. For me that one book makes up for that crap by Traviss.

The others in the Forerunner trilogy made me forgive 343 for Traviss a while ago. But this has become not just my favorite Halo book, but one of my favorite novels altogether. Here's hoping Bear still has influence on the writing in Halo 5 and 6.

I agree, Primordium was kind of a chore to read (still good though), but Silentium was just sooo good, and answered so many questions, and tied up so many plot threads that it is insane. It doesn't quite match up with the Halo 4 terminals though (although it does its best), but much of the discrepancy can be explained away, and I'll forgive him for it in light of everything else.

  • Agreed. I loved each one. I will never forget staying up til 6 am reading Primordium and the sheer mind-blowing power that hit me when I learned what 343 GS really was.

I really didn't expect Silentium to be this good. I expected something great, on the lines of Cryptum (which I loved). But everything was perfect about it, IMO. Especially the confirmation that Chief has the Iso-Didact's geas.

  • Exactly. Up until now, I alwways believed that
the Forerunners simply fled the galaxy, but when I read that all the character lost contact with the Greater Ark and presumed that it was lost... i dont know. I knew it was a possibility they actually did die but I was totally expecting them to show up and help us fight the Flood. And the Audacity's extragalactic trip was something else I wasn't expecting. I had no idea the Forerunners were that old as a species and that they had once been out of the galaxy on such a massive scale.
Completely agreed. Two other things that hit me really hard were
How the Didact actually goes crazy. I mean, I did expect the Ur-Didact to become villainous, but out of resentment towards humans for something. Gravemind torturing him was one of the hardest things to read through, especially because I always liked the Ur-Didact. He was wise, showed no fear (except to Timeless One) and had this extremely sarcastic sense of humor (which only shows up on rare occasions). Another was Faber's sacrifice. I always despised Faber (in a good way), but then he comes giving up his own life to help the IsoDidact, and I don't know what to think. It just gave me a small knock to the heart.
• We still don't know what happened to the survivors on the lesser Ark.

  • I have no doubts there are some left other than the Didact. It just came as kind of surprise that there are probably far fewer left than I first thought.
