I saw Argo, which won best picture, the other night, and I thought it was decent. That's it, decent. There's no way I think it deserved best picture, or even to be nominated for best picture. Every movie I saw in theatres this year was a million times better. The Avengers, the Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall, Looper, the Hobbit. All way better films, and not one of them was nominated for best picture.

The Avengers is a fantastic movie, and in my all-time top five, but it's a popcorn flick, hardly Best Picture material. Ditto for TDKR. A Bond movie is never going to win Best Picture, Looper had a few fairly serious problems (though JGL's prosthetic transformation is exactly the kind of thing films do as Oscar bait), and The Hobbit was never even going to be in the running, even though I did love it. I think you're kind of misunderstanding what the Best Picture nomination means. :P

Does it mean "best picture of the year excluding the good ones"? :P

TDKR was highly overrated, sorry to say. Batman Begins was the best of the trilogy - best story, least self-indulgence. And "good" is a very subjective term that is not solely related to commercial success, or Avatar would have won every Oscar ever. :P

Sometimes I think that Avatar only lost to the Hurt Locker because they wanted to troll James Cameron by giving the award for best picture to his ex-wife :P

Also because Avatar was shit? :P

Not as shit as the Hurt Locker :P
