I asked out my best friend once and after that everything was awkward for months until she finally messaged me, wanting to be friends again. If she cares about you she will try to solve the issue too.

No situation is ever going to be the same, it will always depend on the person. Don't give your self a time limit, talk to her when you know it's right. You might ask, when do I know if it's right or not? You will know man trust me.
