I guess I would hope that loot/monsters would not be "gone" once a player has already reached them. This would not make sense with a story line and could easily ruin people's experience. What I am hoping for is some consistent areas that remain unchanged for story purposes, but with certain areas -or entire worlds, for that matter- that can be changed somehow by the general population. I don't know if this would be as customizable as Minecraft, but letting players have some effect on the universe would be a truly awesome feature.
Letting players have some effect on the universe would be a truly awesome feature.
Judging from Bungie's statements about the game and how it plays, it sounds like they want us to have that kind of impact. They want us to actively alter the course of the game-world, which to me speaks not just drop-in-drop-out shared-world but EVE-style persistent-world, which is why I'm raising these questions as it pertains to playability and what details they've released about the game so far. I trust Bungie to do right by us, and I trust I'll be more than happy with Destiny as an end-product, however it turns out.

I agree full-heartedly and hope that their scope is as large as we are hoping it is. There are many signs that lead me to believe this as well (there was tid-bit from a designer that talked about multi-layer, nonlinear coding within the game world), but I really have no idea how they would do this on the massive scale they are discussing.
